Chair of Governors (Parent Governor)
My name is Helen Yorke and I have been a parent governor since 2012. My son attends the school as I have lived in the local area all my life. I attend Brockmoor Primary School as a child and have always had an interest in the school. I work for the local authority and bring a lot of my skills as a manager to the governor role. At present I sit on the school improvement committee, finance and staffing committee and complaints committee for which I am vice chair. I believe in supporting the school and staff in promoting the teaching and learning of our children in a safe environment. I believe in our children having a well-rounded education and enjoying their learning journey.

I joined Brockmoor school governing body whilst serving as a local councillor for Dudley MBC. Prior to becoming a governor I worked for Dudley social services as a PA to the assistant director for the children and families and ran my own newsagent business at the same time. I enjoyed my role as a governor for Brockmoor and have responsibility for safeguarding and looked after children including being involved in other roles within the governing body. I am proud of being involved with this school and hope that I can continue to serve on the governing body for many years to come.
As a head teacher of Brockmoor primary school I believe I have a relatively simple job description. I need to make sure every child is safe, happy and learning. As a governor I need to encourage others to hold senior leaders to account for this. Governors need to represent the views of our children, parents & carers and wider community and make sure that Brockmoor is a welcoming, well run and financially sound institution that works tirelessly to meet the needs of its stake holders. Our children only have one chance at a good primary education and as a governor I need to be able to prove that this is indeed the case.
Deputy Head & Staff Governor
As a member of SLT at my previous school I was elected to be staff governor in order to support the Head Teacher in explaining assessment data to the governors. On joining Brockmoor as deputy in January 2011 I was elected as staff governor again. I have responsibility for assessment and I became the SENCO in September 2014. I lead priority 1 on achievement. Sitting on the governing body allows me a fuller picture of the school and gives me opportunity to share with governors my insight into assessment for all and the up to date situation for some of our most vulnerable children. As deputy I support the head teacher in promoting the ethos of the school and sharing our vision with governors.
Deputy Head & Co-opted Governor
Whilst working as a consultant in education I became a community governor for a local school focusing on curriculum and finance in 2008 (until 2012) - supporting the school with my educational knowledge and also developing myself in the realms of governance. In 2009, as deputy, I attended all governing body meetings - using my experience gained to support the head teacher in leading the school and acting on his behalf, in his absence. On joining Brockmoor I was asked to become a governor. I feel with my background in education, the range of roles and responsibilities I have undertaken, and my knowledge of a variety of aspects in education I am able to communicate the vision and aspirations for Brockmoor, whether linked to whole school priorities or more specific aspects of my role (safeguarding and mathematics). As Mr Jones says, "we are all about learning" - if we all believe in his mantra we can achieve together.
School Business Manager & Co-opted Governor
I am originally from the North West and moved to Brierley Hill in 1993. I have two boys both educated at Brockmoor. My eldest son left in 2013 just as my younger one started. I volunteered to become a parent governor in 2008 because I wanted to contribute to the school and community in which myself and my family lived. I was asked to become a co-opted governor in 2014 due to my finance and managerial experience. I have an educational background in business and finance and worked in numerous roles within the civil service. As such I am on both the school improvement and finance committees. Due to my knowledge of the school I applied for the post of school business manager and was appointed in January 2016. As a parent, governor and employee I am lucky to be a part of a community of people that want to make Brockmoor the best it can be. Not just teaching facts and figures, but showing children how to learn, how to question and how to express themselves while respecting others. Becoming rounded individuals that, not only understand the world around them, but can live in that world at peace with themselves and others. For perhaps some to go on to help forge that world for the better.
Chair of our School Improvement Committee (Co-opted Governor)
I have had professional links with Brockmoor primary from September 2007 until April 2016. I was first appointed by the local authority as the schools development officer and later as the schools development officer and later as the school improvement officer. In both these roles I worked closely with the head teachers, chair of governers and the senior leadership team. After retiring I volunteered my services as a governor. I am married with two grown up children. My wife was a teacher all her career. I was originally a teacher and then a head teacher for seventeen years before moving to work for the local authority, we live in Wordsley, I am a member of a choir and a local history society.
Co-opted Governor - Outdoor learning and staff well-being
I have lived in Brierley Hill all my life and was born in the shadows of the five sisters (Round Oak Steelworks). ). I have a Cert Ed qualification and have taught at various local colleges. I currently teach at Dudley Advance. I attended Brockmoor (Junior) School, as it was then, as a child and later on when it became Brockmoor Primary both my own children did. I was invited to become a governor many years ago and became immersed in the ethos of the school and was finally encouraged to take up the role of Chair. I am committed to our program of continuous improvement and holistic development and to support fellow governors, staff and of course the pupils, the reason we are all here, because, Every Child Matters (ECM).
I joined the governing body a little under two years ago. I was elected as a community governor due to my links with the local community and Brierley Hill Muslim Welfare Association, as nearly half the children at Brockmoor are from ethnic minority background. Having attended Brockmoor primary school myself, it's important for me to see that school is doing its best to deliver high teaching standards and keeping our children safe and happy during the most important time of their academic studies.
I am a senior manager at a large charity supporting vulnerable adults and children and am also the organisations safeguarding lead. I welcome the opportunity to be a school governor as I strongly believe in the school vision, aims and objectives. I believe that I make a positive contribution to the schools continuous improvement, strengthening the schools governance, reviewing strategy and policies supporting effective leadership and maintaining good ratings most importantly is a positive and inclusive educational experience for all the children who attend the school.
My name is Hannah Martin and my daughter attends Brockmoor Primary School. I was approached by another parent who thought I might be interested in the role of parent governor. I am a book keeper with 20 years experience and I believe I can put my dedication and knowledge to use in helping and approving the school. I have a huge appreciation of the school and am thankful for the opportunity.
I became in governor in September 2017 after living in the West Midlands for the past 5 years. I believe that as a governor I can help to represent the views of the wider community, and help with the continuous improvement of the school. Due to my engineering background I have a keen interest in maths at Brockmoor; and also sit on both the Finance & Staffing and School Improvement committees. I believe that good governance of a school is an important part of its leadership, which will result in pupils achieving their potential, and a welcoming environment for everyone who attends.
I have stood for election for the position of parent governor because I believe my life experience skills will have a beneficial input to the governing body. Brockmoor Primary School has a special place in my heart and I would love to help continue the wonderful work that has, and is, taking place to shape the hearts, intellect and minds of the pupils and their futures. Brockmoor Primary School's values and visions mirror those of my own house and I feel that I can work to ensure that the current and future pupils continue to be "safe, happy and learning" and develop into well adjusted members of society - qualities I have seen my own child develop since being a Brockmoor Primary School Pupil.
Governor Support and Clerk to Governing Body
I have been involved with Brockmoor Primary School since my daughter first joined Reception and I was keen to support her learning. I first started as a Parent Voice member and then moved on to become a Governor. I have volunteered for many things in school and have instigated traditions such as the Parent Voice Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Photo's. I was instrumental in setting up our yearly Career's week and have brought in many people from the world of work to talk to our children. A few ago I instigated our Governor Cluster Meetings, which formed links with Governing Bodies in other schools. Recently I moved into the role of Clerking for the Governing Body and Parent Voice. My driving force has always been wanting the absolute best we can provide for not only my own daughter, but all the children at Brockmoor. The team who work here truly are committed and passionate about giving the children the best possible start in life.
